2012 BECERA Conference
Evidencing Practice through Professional Inquiry
BECERA wants to group the conference into themes which look at:
Methods: what systematic and rigorous methods might be used by those engaged in professional inquiry to create knowledge
Knowledge: what new knowledge is emerging from current professional inquiries
Participation: who is involved in the process of knowledge creation and the professional inquiry process
Proposals should identify in which of the following three themes they wish to locate their presentation. Each theme explores a set of reflexive questions:
Theme 1: Method Matters
What research paradigms work in the ‘real world’ of practice?
What methodological approaches are appropriate for practice based inquiry?
What methods of data gathering capture the world of practice?
What is the nature/ecology of a practice based inquiry?
How is authenticity, credibility, trustworthiness and transferability ensured?
What are the ethical challenges in practice based inquiry?
Theme 2: Knowledge Matters
What knowledge is generated by practice based enquiry?
What knowledge is revealed in multiple narratives?
What knowledge is generated from case studies, focus groups & surveys or other methods?
What are the impacts, outcomes, value, visibility and applications of practice based knowledge?
How knowledge comes from Action Research and development?
Theme 3: Participation Matters
How might children become more active and powerful participants in practice based research?
What can parents’ perspectives reveal about practice?
How can parents participate actively in a research process?
What are the challenges and benefits of the multi-professional collaborative inquiry?
How do practitioners live a ‘life of inquiry’?
